A 20 mile mountain bike race on Minnesota's Gunflint Trail. Featuring beautiful scenery and punishing climbs.
The course takes you on a system of nordic ski trails, snowmobile trails and forest roads, as well as a section of single track trails. The trails are remote and beautiful, and are seldom used outside of the winter.
We've got steep climbs, we've got long climbs, we've got long and steep climbs, little climbs big climbs, loose climbs, grassy climbs.........
Sure, it's a race, but take a minute while you're out there and soak in the remarkable scenery and landscape

The race will start and finish at Bearskin Lodge, 26 miles up the Gunflint Trail
The course is primarily on wide nordic ski and snowmobile trails. While not single track, most sections are far from smooth, and have a single tread running down the middle.
The course is fairly non-technical. It does include multiple steep fast descents, some of them on loose terrain. Even very skilled riders while need to exercise caution on these sections
The course will be well marked at all intersections. A .gpx file will also be available before race day.
No. Normal traffic laws apply on all roads and at all road crossings.
The course is well suited to a mountain bike. While a skilled rider could possible ride it on a gravel bike, it wouldn't be any fun.
October weather can by highly variable.. Highs in the mid 50's are the norm., but it could be much warmer or considerably colder. It's suggested that you keep an eye on the weather leading uo to the event, and bring appropriate clothing for a wide range of conditions.
The event will be held rain or shine. The US Forest Service requires an alternate course it the trails become overly saturated. In the case of extreme ground saturation, the event will become a multi lap gravel race.
Bearskin Lodge and the nearby East Bearskin Campground & Camper Cabins are the most convenient options. Golden Eagle Lodge is also located on the trail system. Other Gunflint area lodging can be found here.
Because it's exciting!
This year the race is limited to 100 entries.
No. Probably not.
There is abundant wildlife in the area, all of which you are more likely to see running from you than the other way around.
